Jolley Ole' England

August 24- Leave for London
Casey and I have been wanting to visit Kam and Summer ever since they left, in March. Finally!! After about 12 hours of flying time and a loss of 8 hours, we arrived in London at 7AM on Saturday morning. Kam and Summer picked us up from the airport and we went straight to the tube to take us sight-seeing.

First stop: The Tower of London
Next: The Tower Bridge

And after a far too quick trip to Harrod's, we rounded off our marathon first day in London by going to Les Mis at the Queen's Theatre...SO good!!

Our hotel was on a cute, quiet little street in Paddington...just a stone's throw from Hyde Park where Summer and I went jogging one gorgeous morning.
Day 2: Buckingham Palace,
the London Eye, Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the British Museum.
Day 3: Carnival in Nottinghill

On our way down to Sherborne, we stopped in the freezing rain for a picture at Stonehenge.

The landscape of the English countryside is so much more diverse than I expected. We went from seaside pubs and cliffs...

to cities that evolved around hot springs...

to acres of heart-stoppingly beautiful gardens.

Kam and Summer live in Sherborne, Dorset which is a picture right out of a fairytale book. It's no wonder that they've fallen under it's spell. 4 days there just wasn't enough.
Keep our bed warm, friends...we will be back:)

Independance Day

Just wish I had a bit longer with their hands.
Today is a milestone. I just sent my youngest off to kindergarten and am about to stick my oldest on the 'Jr High' bus.
How'm I feeling?? Old...and a bit sad (mixed with excitement for them).
I have never been sappy about my kids going off to school but this year feels different. I'm so very protective over Lila and her speech issues (related to her cleft), that letting her leave the nest is slightly worrisome for me. This Independance Day might not be such a party after all:/
At least I know Cade will be alright. I asked him if he was excited for Jr. High,
"no"
...was he nervous,
"no"
OK then. I guess no expectations are just about the right expectations for 7th grade:)

Heavenly Purgatory

Don't believe everything you read. Purgatory is actually quite lovely;)
This weekend, we drove 8 hours up to 9000 feet above sea level to Purgatory Ski Resort, outside of Durango, Colorado. Everything about it was amazing. The Resort was gorgeous and spacious with TONS to do. The scenery was absolutely song-inspiring, (we, for sure all got Rocky Mountain Highs). The weather was PERFECT! And, the company... I can't say enough about the Skidmore family:)
